Merpati Airlines plans to add new aircraft

PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines (MNA) or the Merpati Airlines plans to add new vehicles to support its performance. For the addition of 15 MA-60 fleet types, the total funding needed by Merpati Airlines almost USD 30 billion. Not just that, Merpati Airline also intends to add 11 SAAB fleet type with an investment of USD 58 billion.

Finance Director of Merpati Airlines, Robi Quento explained, for the fleet type of the MA-60 will begin to operate in June 2010 to serve 49 flight routes. Procurement of these aircrafts  which is coming from China, is done through Sub Loan Agreement. While for the aircraft SAAB type, Robi said that will bring it from Norway in October this year. Financing of SAAB aircraft type which will serve 42 routes done by way of operating lease.

"To improve the performance of MNA, Merpati Airlines have increased the number of aircraft or perform rejuvenation of the aircraft to enhance production, competitiveness, and serve. In addition, also for the selection of routes will be focused on routes that are growing and in accordance with the fleet owned by the Merpati Nusantara Airlines, "said Robi. Funds for the purchase of this aircraft is part of the operational funding requirements this year to reach USD 310 billion.

Garuda Maintenance Facilities maintained 14 Boeing

PT Garuda Maintenance Facilities AeroAsia got the contract maintenance and repair as many as 14 Boeing 737-300 and 737-400 aircraft owned by Sriwijaya Air. The contract is valid three years from April 2010 until December 31, 2012.

Previously, Sriwijaya Air treating all types of 737 aircraft at the Singapore International Airlines Engineering Company (SIAEC) and Malaysia Airlines (MAS). Nevertheless, Sriwijaya Air have several times worked with Garuda Maintenance Facilities in aircraft repairs, such as Line Maintenance. "With this cooperation, Indonesia devisa has not run abroad," said Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sriwijaya Air Chandra Lie, after the signing of the contract between the Sriwijaya Air and Garuda Maintenance Facilities which represented by Richard Budihadianto.

Sriwijaya Air actually has 27 aircrafts, seven are owned by them. Other aircraft, including Boeing 737-200 type, not handled by the Garuda Maintenance Facilities, but by other domestic companies, such as the PT ANI.

Three Indonesia Airlines dominate flight market share

In early 2010, three national (Indonesia) airlines dominate the domestic air transport market in Indonesia. There are: PT Lion Mentari Airlines (Lion Air), PT Garuda Indonesia and Sriwijaya Air. At least the top three were listed in the official data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transportation

Director of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Tri S. Sunoko said, the number of domestic passengers till the end of February 2010 as many as 6.637 million passengers. Lion Air had the largest market share with 2.7 million passengers a number of passengers or 41.9 per cent. Next followed by Garuda Indonesia of 1.27 million passengers, or 19.1 percent and Sriwijaya Air occupied the third position with 15.9 percent market share with 1.06 million total passengers.

Export value of ornamental fish from Indonesia tends to increase every year, and during the year 2009 reached 10 million U.S. dollars.

"In 2007 totaled USD 7.3 million, and on the year 2008 is increasing to USD 8.3 million," said Head of Data Center for Statistics and Information Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Soen'an H. Purnomo. But according to him, the export value is still not significantly compared to the large potential of ornamental fish resources of Indonesia which reaches 1.5 billion fishes.

Indonesia is now only controlled 7.5 percent of new ornamental fish trade in the world, or far behind compared to Singapore which reached 22.8 percent. "Though the country has no resources of ornamental fish," said Soen'an. Receiving countries that receive of freshwater and marine species which export from Indonesia are Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, America and the European Union. "Therefore, to bolster the performance of marine and fisheries sector, the one commodity that is important is the ornamental fish, hence its development needs to be done well," he said.

To develop of ornamental fish industry can be done through three efforts : first, the development of marketing and development center of ornamental fish, or better known as Ornamental Fish Research. The second effort, which is organizing exhibitions and sales of ornamental fish market. Third is facilitating the ornamental fish market promotion in foreign and domestic.

"In an effort to realize the vision of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries to be a biggest producer of marine and fishery products in the world in 2015, we had set a four-step strategy (grand strategy policy)," he said. These strategic steps are to strengthen institutional and human resources in an integrated manner, to manage marine resources and sustainable fisheries, enhance productivity and competitiveness of the knowledge base and expand domestic and international market access.

Batavia Air is planning to add the regional and international routes to face the open-sky policy which starting in 2015. "Networking should be build up as widely as possible because the outside competitor would come in," said Commerce Director of PT Metro Batavia, Hasudungan Pandiangan.

The flight routes are to Perth (Australia), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Bangkok (Thailand), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), Dili (Timor Leste), Tokyo (Japan), Hong Kong, Seoul ( South Korea), Dubai (UAE) and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). "The nearest route to open is to Dili via Denpasar, and also to Jeddah. Jeddah route is planning to open on May 5," he said.

Hasudungan optimistic that Batavia Air is able to face the competition in the year 2015, since they begin the operation eight years ago, has a rapid growth. "Formerly, Batavia Air only have four planes," he said. To expand their market, Batavia Air also targeting as a national airline company to revoke the ban permission by the European Union. One of the effort is no longer using Boeing 737 series 200. "Now there are two fleets left," Hasudungan said.

Batavia Air is also committed to improving the delays that are still frequently occur. Batavia Air has flight frequency as much as 175 times per day to 38 regional routes and three international routes, namely Singapore, Kuching and Guangzhou. For the year 2010, Batavia Air has target to served the passengers around 7.8 million people, increase from the realization in 2009 as many as 6.5 million passengers.
